As the Haitian people continue to struggle in the wake of the massive earthquake, eye trauma is among the many problems facing the Haitian people. NCEB now has a system in place to provide corneal tissue to Haiti. On January 23, 2010, Dr. Byron Biscoe will fly with the tissue from the US Virgin Islands to Haiti in order to provide corneal surgery to those in need. The mission of The North Carolina Eye Bank is to recover, process and distribute ocular tissue for the restoration of sight through corneal transplantation. We are honored to take part in this humanitarian effort to bring relief to the Haitian people. |
